Description
We are seeking a qualified, reflective, and enthusiastic PYP Homeroom Teacher to teach English, Mathematics, and Science to students in Grades 1 to 5 within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework.
The ideal candidate is a concept-driven educator who understands inquiry, transdisciplinary learning, and the IB Learner Profile, and who can translate these into rigorous, engaging classroom practice, not just posters on the wall.
The PYP Homeroom Teacher is responsible for both academic and pastoral leadership of the class and for preparing students for school events, exhibitions, student-led conferences, assemblies, field trips, and competitions. The teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues to create a safe, inclusive, and intellectually challenging learning environment that promotes curiosity, agency, collaboration, and respect.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver transdisciplinary Units of Inquiry aligned with the IB PYP framework, integrating English, Mathematics, and Science through concept-based, inquiry-driven learning
- Develop learning experiences that promote student agency, voice, and choice
- Assess, monitor, and document student progress using formative and summative assessment strategies aligned with PYP practices, including observations, rubrics, reflections, portfolios, and performance tasks
- Maintain accurate records of student learning and contribute to PYP documentation and evidence of learning
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students and parents through report cards, conferences, written communication, and student-led conferences
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs using scaffolding, flexible grouping, and differentiation by content, process, product, learning profile, interest, and readiness
- Use a variety of engaging teaching strategies and resources, including hands-on investigations, experiments, discussions, stories, digital tools, and collaborative learning experiences
- Prepare and support students for PYP exhibitions, learning expos, assemblies, charity events, field trips, and competitions, helping them develop skills in research, communication, collaboration, creativity, and reflection
- Establish a positive classroom culture grounded in PYP attitudes, learner profile attributes, and international-mindedness
- Apply positive behaviour management strategies, clear expectations, and restorative practices
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership
- Actively participate in PYP planning meetings, professional development, workshops, data dialogue sessions, and school-wide initiatives
Home Visits
One of the key responsibilities of the PYP Homeroom Teacher is to conduct regular home visits as part of strengthening the school–family partnership.
- Home visits involve meeting parents at their home, workplace, or another mutually agreed location (excluding the school campus)
- The purpose of home visits includes:
- Building relationships and mutual understanding
- Strengthening collaboration between school and family, with the family viewed as part of the solution
- Improving communication between students, parents, teachers, and administration
- Gaining deeper insight into the student’s background to support character development and academic success
- Discussing student progress, achievements, behaviour, school activities, events, and commendations
- Home visits are conducted at least once per term per student
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education / Elementary Education
- Valid teaching certification (PGCE / QTS / equivalent)
- IB PYP training or experience is strongly preferred
- Minimum two years of teaching experience at the primary level in an international or bilingual school
- Native English speaker
- High level of English language proficiency (spoken and written)
- Strong understanding of the IB PYP framework, including:

- Concepts, skills, knowledge, and action
- Assessment in the PYP
- Ability to use technology effectively to support teaching and learning, including:
