Description

Horizon International School is seeking a creative, reflective, and student-centered Art & Design Teacher to join our Upper Secondary team. The successful candidate will teach Art & Design to students in Grades 9–12, supporting both Cambridge IGCSE/AS/A Level pathways and broader portfolio-based creative learning.

The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop technical skills, visual literacy, creative confidence, and independent artistic expression. As not all students pursue Cambridge examinations, the teacher should be able to balance examination preparation with meaningful, engaging, and differentiated art education for all learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging Art & Design lessons aligned with the school curriculum and Cambridge IGCSE/AS/A Level expectations where applicable.
  • Support students in developing drawing, painting, mixed media, design, digital art, visual research, and portfolio presentation skills.
  • Prepare Cambridge examination candidates through clear guidance on coursework, assessment expectations, process journals, and final outcomes.
  • Provide differentiated instruction for students with diverse abilities, language backgrounds, and varying levels of creative confidence.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and inspiring studio environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, reflection, and responsible use of materials.
  • Assess student progress through portfolios, sketchbooks, process work, critiques, exhibitions, and final artworks.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to help students improve their technical skills, creative process, and personal artistic voice.
  • Support students in building portfolios for exhibitions, competitions, university applications, and personal development.
  • Contribute to school events, exhibitions, creative clubs, interdisciplinary projects, and promotional activities.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and collaborate with colleagues to support student progress and well-being.
Candidate Profile

The successful candidate should have:

  • A degree in Art, Design, Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field.
  • Teaching qualification or relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching secondary or upper secondary Art & Design.
  • Familiarity with Cambridge IGCSE and/or AS/A Level Art & Design is highly desirable.
  • Strong skills in portfolio development, creative process documentation, and student feedback.
  • Ability to support both examination and non-examination students.
  • A student-centered approach with strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and the school’s guiding values.
What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a teacher who can help students see Art & Design not only as a subject, but as a powerful way to express identity, communicate ideas, solve problems, and build confidence. The teacher should guide students through structured skill development while also encouraging originality, reflection, and creative independence.

Commitment to Safeguarding

Horizon International School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are expected to follow the school’s Child Protection Policy and complete required background checks as a condition of employment.
