About Tesla Education

Tesla Education is a fully authorised IB World School in Tân Bình, Ho Chi Minh City. Founded in 2015, we offer the complete IB continuum: the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme. We are a member school of the Council of International Schools.

Our dual track model brings the IB together with the Vietnamese national curriculum. Students grow as confident global citizens while staying rooted in Vietnamese language and culture.

Purpose of the Role

This is a dual role for a teacher who loves mathematics and understands how children learn a new language. You will teach Mathematics in MYP 1 to 3, building the strong foundations our students need for MYP 4 and 5 and the Diploma Programme.

You will also lead English as an Additional Language support in the upper PYP. This role establishes dedicated EAL provision in our primary school. You will help students access the full curriculum and move into the MYP with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

MYP Mathematics (MYP 1 to 3)

• Plan and teach MYP Mathematics using unit planners built on key and related concepts, global contexts and statements of inquiry.

• Use the Tesla Teaching Framework in every lesson. Build fluency through explicit teaching and practice, then deepen understanding through inquiry and problem solving.

• Assess against MYP Mathematics criteria A to D. Take part in standardisation and moderation with colleagues.

• Align teaching with national curriculum mathematics outcomes where the dual track model requires it.

• Use assessment and internal examination data to plan intervention and stretch.

• Contribute to vertical articulation from the MYP to DP Mathematics, so the pathway is clear from Grade 6.

• Encourage students to enter mathematics competitions and challenges.

Upper PYP EAL (Grades 4 and 5)

• Screen and assess the English proficiency of students in Grades 4 and 5. Set baselines and track progress against recognised language descriptors such as CEFR or WIDA.

• Deliver targeted EAL support through small group sessions and in class support alongside homeroom teachers.

• Work with homeroom teachers to scaffold units of inquiry with key vocabulary, sentence frames and visual supports.

• Prepare students for the academic reading and writing demands of the MYP.

• Contribute to the school language policy and build practical EAL guidance for teachers.

• Communicate progress clearly with families, many of whom speak Vietnamese at home.

Across both programmes

• Record assessment and progress on Toddle. Write accurate, personal report comments on time.

• Attend PYP and MYP planning, moderation and team meetings.

• Contribute to the PYP to MYP transition day and other transition activities.

• Offer at least one after school activity and take part in the house system and whole school events.

• Take part in lesson observations, coaching and IB professional development.

• Follow all school policies, including child protection, health and safety, and data protection.

• Undertake other reasonable duties set by the Coordinators or Head of School

Personal Specification:

• Degree in mathematics, education or a related field

• Recognised teaching qualification (for example PGCE, BEd or a state teaching licence)

• At least two years of experience teaching mathematics at lower secondary level

• Training or proven experience in supporting English language learners (for example CELTA, TESOL or equivalent)

• Fluent English, written and spoken, at native or near native level

• Clear commitment to safeguarding and child protection

• Meets the requirements for a Vietnamese work permit (international candidates)
