The Director of Studies (DOS) is responsible for the coordination of programmes for all of ACET’s private and fee-paying students at all centres in either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City and leads an Academic Team as well as a diverse group of local and expatriate teachers

Key Responsibility:

44 hours per week including 40 compulsory hours and 04 hours for marketing, student recruitment or company activities when required.

  • Academic Management - City level
    • Manage the Academic Team (both teaching and non-teaching staff) by way of effective communications and the allocation of tasks, duties and roles in conformity with ACET HR policy and procedures
    • Oversee the implementation of all curricula on all programs according to the needs of the Academic Director.
    • Plan and manage the teaching and admin hours allocation of the academic team under the guidance of the Academic Director
    • Recruit and timetable teaching staff (in cooperation with the HR team whenever necessary)
    • Determine class timetable on a term by term basis – allocating teachers to classes in a timely manner
    • Monitor and evaluate student assessment reports for both AE and FS
    • Monitor and evaluate student exit questionnaires/ satisfaction surveys for both AE and FS
    • Conduct teacher appraisals and teaching observations, and arrange to mentor for both AE and FS
    • Assess professional development needs of teaching staff and construct an in-service training (INSET) and professional development programme for both AE and FS
    • Conduct academic management team meetings and teaching staff meetings for both AE and FS
    • Developing professional development for teachers of AE and FS
  • Administrative - City level
    • Supervise student programme formalities required to ensure the termly teaching cycle runs smoothly – including the testing and student induction
    • Assist the HR & Admin Manager in finalising salary payments to ACET teaching staff
    • Interview and recruit teachers
    • Placement Test as required
  • Products Development - City level
    • Work with Academic Director/TCM on curriculum development and implement
    • Respond to planning and initiation of any change in ACET product
    • Support the Marketing team and Sales team for a marketing campaign; product training
    • Be well-versed in commercially available placement tests and in proficiency tests for university admissions overseas (including IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC)
    • Design and develop corporate training programs drawing on the existing curriculum but modifying and complementing this in response to client demand under the guidance of the Academic Director
    • Work with Academic Director for Department’s projects
  • Project Manager General:
    • The DOS will work with other members of the ACET City management team playing a role relevant to projects in the ACET Strategic Plan

Essential requirements (skills, knowledge experience & qualification(s)):

  • 2-5 years year experience as an Academic manager
  • An undergraduate degree from a recognized university
  • An internationally recognized English language teaching qualification (e.g. CELTA, or equivalent)
  • At least 5 years of ELT/TESOL teaching experience at reputable institutions – mainly with adults
  • A postgraduate ELT/TESOL qualification, such as Cambridge DELTA, Cambridge IDLTM, or a Master’s degree in ELT/TESOL
  • Academic supervisory experience at a reputable institution
  • Thorough understanding of the role of culture in language teaching and learning
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • A great deal of energy and enthusiasm
  • Ability to work in a team environment Experience in teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and/or IELTS preparatory classes is preferred

Desirable requirements:

  • ELT experience in Vietnam or Asia
  • Experience in teaching Academic English/ Young Learners / Teens
