PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The IGCSE and AS/A Level Economics Teacher delivers high-quality instruction across the Cambridge Secondary and Advanced pathways. At IGCSE level, the teacher develops students’ foundational understanding of economic principles, including markets, government intervention, and international trade. At AS and A Level, the teacher deepens students’ analytical and evaluative skills across microeconomics and macroeconomics, preparing them for strong performance in Cambridge external examinations and progression to university programs in economics, business, finance, and related disciplines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver well-structured lessons aligned with the Cambridge IGCSE Economics and AS/A Level Economics syllabi
- Develop students’ understanding of key economic concepts such as supply and demand, market structures, inflation, unemployment, fiscal and monetary policy, and international trade
- Teach analytical and evaluative skills required for extended responses and data-response questions
- Prepare students for Cambridge examinations, including structured questions, data-response analysis, and essay writing
- Develop students’ ability to interpret graphs, analyse economic data, and evaluate competing arguments
- Differentiate instruction to support students with varying academic and English proficiency levels
- Use formative and summative assessment to monitor student progress
- Provide clear, targeted feedback to improve analytical writing and examination performance
- Encourage students to connect economic theory with real-world economic issues and current global developments
Curriculum Collaboration
- Follow Cambridge syllabus objectives for IGCSE Economics and AS/A Level Economics
- Design and mark internal assessments aligned to Cambridge standards
- Prepare mock exams, revision schedules, and exam support materials
- Maintain accurate records of academic attainment and progress
- Support moderation, exam entry, and Cambridge submission processes
