Description

Position title: Secondary Mathematics Teacher

Reports to: Head of Secondary and High School

Purpose of the Role:

This role is designed to deliver high-quality Mathematics education to students in Years 7–12, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and a love of learning. The teacher will play a vital role in supporting students to achieve their academic potential and preparing them for future success, whether in further education or the workplace.

Compulsory Requirement: 

  • Must have bachelor's education degree or PGCE and QTS

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and challenging Mathematics lessons that cater to a diverse range of learning abilities and year levels.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, resources, and technologies to make complex mathematical concepts accessible and engaging.
  • Develop students’ mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills through practical applications and real-world contexts.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students, including those requiring additional support or extension.

Curriculum Development and Collaboration:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a cohesive Mathematics curriculum for Years 7–12, aligned with school and external examination standards.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure curriculum progression and continuity across year levels.
  • Integrate cross-disciplinary approaches to Maths, where appropriate, to enhance student understanding and engagement.

Assessment and Feedback:

  • Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and constructive feedback to students to guide their learning and improvement.
  • Use assessment data to inform lesson planning, identify learning gaps, and support differentiated instruction.
  • Prepare students for internal and external examinations, including strategies for success in standardized assessments.

Classroom Culture and Environment:

  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students feel supported and encouraged to take risks in their learning.
  • Foster resilience, perseverance, and a growth mindset by celebrating student effort and achievement.
  • Establish clear expectations for behaviour and learning, promoting a respectful and productive classroom atmosphere.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in Mathematics education.
