Position title: KS2 International Homeroom Teacher
Reports to: Head of Primary
Purpose of the Role:
This role is designed to enrich the Key Stage 2 (KS2) education experience by delivering high-quality, engaging teaching across multiple subjects in alignment with the Cambridge Primary curriculum at the Japanese International School, Hanoi. The role focuses on fostering independence, critical thinking, and a love of learning in older primary students.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons across core subjects that challenge and inspire KS2 students.
- Foster independent learning by encouraging students to take responsibility for their progress and apply their knowledge to real-world contexts.
- Use a range of teaching methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within the classroom.
- Support the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills through varied and interactive activities.
Curriculum Development and Collaboration:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a coherent, progressive KS2 curriculum that prepares students for secondary education.
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate cross-curricular themes and create meaningful learning experiences.
- Participate in school-wide projects, exhibitions, and activities to showcase students’ learning and achievements.
Assessment and Feedback:
- Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative methods, ensuring alignment with curriculum standards.
- Provide constructive and actionable feedback to help students improve and take ownership of their learning.
- Use assessment data to inform lesson planning, support differentiated instruction, and identify areas for student development.
Classroom Culture and Environment:
- Create a positive and stimulating classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported in their learning.
- Celebrate student achievements and encourage a growth mindset by fostering resilience and perseverance.
- Establish clear expectations for behavior and learning, using strategies that promote respect, collaboration, and responsibility.
Professional Development and School Community Involvement:
- Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practices and stay current with the needs of KS2 learners.
- Attend and participate actively in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events.
- Contribute to the wider school community by supporting initiatives, activities, and events that align with the school’s mission and vision.
Community Engagement:
- Support students in connecting their learning with the wider community through outreach projects and local partnerships.
- Encourage leadership and responsibility by involving students in activities such as student council, school performances, or peer mentoring.
- Build strong relationships with parents and carers to support student learning and development.
