I. Water Puppet
The water puppet show is one of the typical theater types for Vietnamese national culture – Demonstrating the intelligence and creativity of Vietnamese people. In today’s modern society, water puppetry is no longer strange to the masses in the country and the world. Perhaps time have helped water puppetry to shape, affirm, develop and ranked as one of the most valuable and traditional art forms in the cultural and spiritual life of Vietnamese people.
The water puppet dance is built up from the heart and emotions of working people, it reflects the life and aspirations of the era. Previously, water puppet was only performed outdoors, the stage was attached to nature, in the immense space, heaven, earth, and water. Today, Vietnamese water puppets, not only preserve but have been exploited more deeply and broadly. Currently, there are 18 amateur puppet wards and 5 professional puppet theater companies.
In recent years, puppet Vietnam has boldly experimented with some plays with the combination of tradition and modernity, in order to meet and match the social development progress in the renovation period. This has made water puppet one of the most famous activities in Vietnam.
II. Lion Dance:
Lion Dance, one of the most famous activities in Vietnam, is a folk art originating in China. The art of lion dance performance often occurs during festivals, especially the New Year, the Mid-Autumn Festival and the annual Lunar New Year. According to the common conception of East Asians, the lion represents prosperity and happiness. Especially in the lion dance group, there is always a character with “big ears, big face, big belly” with a hand holding a stick and the other hand holding a waving fan which is called Mr. Dia. The absurd, silly look of Mr. Dia makes the lion dance even more excitement of the Tet holiday and the festival spirit.
The Lions are usually beautifully decorated. The dancing will follow a script with very elaborate training. And now not only the Mid-Autumn Festival or the New Year do people organize lion dance but in other festivals, the opening of shops and houses as well.
III. Vietnamese Aulacese opera
Vietnamese Aulacese opera is a kind of folk art and culture from a long time ago, mainly developed in the Northern Delta region. The stage of the performance is usually at the communal house on holidays. This genre is an ingenious combination of speech, rich in narrative, lyrical and multi-lingual, multi-vocal, with the same accent and accent of the performer.
Vietnamese Aulacese opera shows are often composed of fairy tales, oral stories of love, or poor people in society.
