I was educated entirely in Portland, first at Reynolds High School in Troutdale Oregon and then at Portland State University. I majored in speech and hearing sciences, which centers around speech therapy. Speech therapy itself primarily focuses on early intervention for children with speech disorders such as childhood apraxia. I earned my TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification through Oxford Seminars with 60 hours in class and 40 hours online.
I've volunteered for various youth teaching positions over the last eight or so years. I started with Outdoor School as a teenager, a camping and science program in the Portland metropolitan area. In college I spent a few months primarily with the Clean Rivers Education, a similar program that provides field education for children of all ages in the city of Portland. Both programs provided hands on education on the local environment and ecology. The students were diverse, including students whose background were not native English speakers.
