I’ve been an ESL teacher for over 10 years. As cliché as it sounds, I absolutely love it. I love the interaction, the focused goal setting, the laughs, the games, the potential for creativity and fun. I love seeing my students leave at the end of the course with massive gains in their communication ability.
I have a strong background in Communication and Business English. As to my teaching style, as a CELTA graduate I well understand the value of creating integrated lessons. I make sure that my lessons use different methodologies that compliment and re-enforce each other through a central theme. I am a big proponent of task-based learning. It’s a useful vehicle for engaging the students as it’s quite engaging to have ‘gap-fills’ to complete. Contextual learning is also useful, as it takes things from the somewhat abstract, to the real world. I don’t believe in ‘cookie-cutter’ classes and think each class should ideally be targeted towards the student’s respective interests, lives or professions.
