I taught English in Japan for AEON, one of the most prestigious English institutions in the country. They are a private English school that teaches students of all ages and skill levels ranging from as young as 1 to 70+.
Throughout my teaching experience, I acquired a wide range of skills from class management to effective teaching by keeping things simple. One important lesson I learned is to always stay positive as to not discourage or cause discomfort for the students. I also encourage my students to make mistakes because I see it as an opportunity to learn and grow. Fear of making mistakes is a hurdle I help my students overcome.
With teaching young children, it brings me joy to see them improve every day whether it's by speaking up, doing homework or even coming with a smile. As long as they are happy and having fun with my lessons, I know I can go home fulfilled.
For adult learners, I found it even more enjoyable because it is clear they are studying with a clear goal in mind whether it is to pass high school/university examinations or studying for TOEIC to work abroad. I have personally helped over 10 students succeed in this area.
Thanks to teaching, it has opened my horizon to not only fascinating new people and culture but also my own ability to grow and help people succeed.
