August 7 - September 1 2017: I completed an intensive TEFL course through Hello Academies in Prague, Czech Republic. We covered topics such as grammar, phonetics, discipline in the classroom, engaging learners and much more. I had the chance to teach six 1-hour lessons to Czech adults, had several one-on-one lessons with a private student, and observed and critiqued my peers' lessons.

2015-2016: BSocSci Hons. Bachelor of Social Science Psychology Honours degree at University of Pretoria. Modules included Psychopathology, Child development, Psychological Assessment, Community Psychology, Neuropsychology and others. Graduated Cum Laude.

2011-2014: BA (own choice) degree with final modules of Psychology, Criminology and Research Methodology at University of Pretoria. Graduated Cum Laude and invited to join the Golden Key International Honour Society, making up the top 15% of achievers in my degree.

Additional Experience

2014-2015: Teacher's assistant as part of the Teaching Assistant Project at Unica Highschool. This entailed volunteering once a week to help learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder (including Asperger Syndrome) complete schoolwork, looking after them during lunch time, cooking with them, and occasionally helping with outings, plays or shows.

2015-2016: Psychoeducation at Eersterust Community Health Clinic. This entailed a year of producing self-help brochures and posters dealing with several issues mainly centred around mental health. Topics covered included depression and bipolar disorder, substance abuse, medication compliance and others. We held informal talks with visitors at the clinic, offering opportunities for their questions to be heard and answered. We engaged in one-on one sessions where we would give advice and information to people who wanted to explain symptoms/feelings to us and referred people who needed help to Lucinda, the head psychologist at the clinic.

2015-2016: Skills workshops at Shalom NGO. This entailed several months of doing a needs assessment at a small Non-Government Organisation (NGO) in Pretoria and implementing workshops designed to solve problems. For example, they expressed a problem of high failure rates of schoolchildren in the area. We designed study skills programmes to teach members of the NGO so that they could in turn impart these skills to children in the community.

2015: Child abuse talks to over 1300 children at Nantes Primary School. This entailed a once-off campaign during child abuse awareness month. A group of colleagues and I acquired sponsorship and gave talks informing young children of their rights. We delivered our presentation along with representatives from South African Police Service and Ke-Moja anti-drug ambassadors.
