Personal statement

Before joining Bath Spa University to do a degree in Media Communications and Film studies I held a range of different jobs. I have experience in working as an individual or as part of a team and also have had a lot of experience in running and co-ordinating a team. In the past I have held roles where communication is key and this is an area I feel I excel on. I have worked towards and accomplished deadlines and have a very good understanding of time management. I am a punctual and

hard working individual who takes a lot of pride in my work. Having now worked in Vietnam for a year I feel I have gained a good understanding of the Vietnamese working method and also pride myself on the working relationships I fostered with both Vietnamese and foreign colleagues.

Employment History

APAX – Senior Teacher

(March 2018 – August 2018)

After half a year with APAX an opportunity to become senior teacher presented itself. Even though I was new to the company and the ESL industry in general it was an opportunity I wanted to pursue. My responsibilities included being stand in headteacher on the HT's day off. Helping to to train new teachers as well as making them feel welcomed into the centre. The main area of responsibility was to give feedback to teachers through commetn and CCTV observation. Although I ony did this job for a short time it was something I thoroughly enjoyed, the added responsibilty invigorated and motviated me to work harder.

APAX – Teacher

(September 2017 - Present)

After completing my TEFl course I moved out to Hanoi, Vietnam to work for APAX english. At my centre I teach 10 different groups over the course of the week ranging in all abilities and ages from 4 to 16. I run many different types of activities in my classes from game and songs with the children, to more engaging and stimulating conversations with the older students. I find teaching very engaging and particularly enjoy working with older students. I take pride in my work with APAX as it it is a new challenge for me but one that I am thoroughly enjoying.

Waitrose – Supermarket Assistant

(February 2017 – August 2027)

I returned to Waitrose in a role of less responsibility. Although since returning I have been asked to run shift on several occasions and have risen to the challenge none the less.

At the petrol station I was regularly left with one other member of staff to operate and maintain the safety and security of both the petrol station and the customers on the forecourt. My role was both customer facing and operational within the petrol station, recording fuel deliveries and completing the relevant certificates, restocking the shelves and customer safety.

Within 3 months of working for the company I was moved up through my section to a team leader position and began working full time hours. I took over responsibilities from the departing wine specialist and received training in this area. I was given responsibility for the security of branch and given key holder status this allowed me to open and close the branch, whilst also being placed on a calling list to respond to any alarms that occurred when the branch was shut. I would regularly attend morning meetings and up to 3/4 nights a week I was left to supervise night shifts and ensure the branch was secure once the night shift had finished. I was made part of a cross section team with specific responsibility to reduce the stock wastage across the branch. I was asked to return to the branch for the Christmas period and continued with many of the responsibilities I had previously held, my main role being to implement effective stock management of beers, wines and spirits which is one of the busiest sections of the branch during the festive period. This was my gap year prior to going to University.
