To Whom it May Concern
I am so excited to have an opportunity to work in a new educational environment. After taking a year sabbatical and traveling the world, I have determined that I truly find meaning as an educator. I have also decided that through my varied experience, I am ready to totally immerse myself in new environment to use my skills as an educator to impact students and the community. I believe that my academic credentials, demonstrated leadership ability, and experience in various teaching environments, and various roles as an educator uniquely prepare me for this position. I truly believe students need to be challenged academically, and personally to grow and develop grit, an essential component in an ever-changing global world.
I have been working in education my whole adult life, and this opportunity feels like the right fit for this time in my life. My goal is to always motivate students to challenge themselves, work hard, be committed, and to expect the unexpected, as a part of this, I have always found ways for students to see the world through different lenses. I was able to do this in my AP Psychology class, elective psychology class, history course (both online and in person) and through teaching college success at the community college. I have been a high school teacher, college teacher, assistant principal, and most recently athletic director. These roles have helped my grow as an educator, and a someone that in every position has found a way to put students first, and create a school wide environment that promoted care and understanding, which resulted in students desires to take academic risks
As a psychology teacher, through dedication and continuous hard work, I steadily increased my student passage rate and enrollment, by developing and implementing creative strategies to motivate students to excel and find meaning in their educational goals. By using many unique and interactive constructivist methods, a new level of student interaction was achieved. Providing student access to a plethora of educational resources, I was able to encourage students to develop their critical thinking skills.
I have been actively involved, in school wide change in supporting the creation of standards-based lessons. Through school wide trainings, I have developed clear strategies for the implementation of measurable objectives based off content standards, as well as the means to assess student understanding throughout a lesson. Not only have I observed these strategies as an administrator but have seen the effective implementation of these strategies on a school wide level. As an instructional leader, I have been an active participant in various committees. My previous role provided me with direct knowledge of policies and procedures, along with opportunities to interact in the administrative environment to help both teachers and students grow. I have a diverse background in education that has allowed me to be an instructional leader and a caring teacher for all students.
It is now time to move forward and take on new challenges, new responsibilities and continue to lead by example in a different learning environment. I am more than thrilled to have the opportunity to work, at your school, in fact in many ways it could literally be a dream realized. You might ask the question as to why I would like to move across the world to teach. The answer to me is simple; I would like to find a way to have an impact beyond the community I have worked in the past ten years. While, I am happy with my contributions, I feel the time is right to continue to grow and further understanding of how education itself can transform the world we live in for students and adults. I am ready and willing to do whatever it takes to be a part of this environment, it is something I am incredibly passionate about, and am willing to take the leap whenever asked. I really would love the opportunity to speak with you about this position. Thank you for your consideration, I look forward to hearing from you.
