Native English teacher for kindergarten students, ages 6-10 years old. Responsible for cultivating and developing student’s language skills, providing learning materials, and developing and applying the core curriculum. Duties also included arranging arts and crafts materials, mathematics, and language arts activities. Taught two 1-hour long after school classes each day for SMIS graduates (age 8 and 9). I was also responsible for creating and directing the year-end musical performance inspired by Disney’s The Lion King. Taught a total of 35 class hours per week.
Sogang Language Program (SLP)
January 2015 – February 2016
Native English teacher for after school students, age 8-15 years old in classes ranging from 3-10 students. Responsible for all lesson planning and testing, plus the execution and application of the core curriculum in tandem with Korean partner teachers. Total teaching time per week amounted to 20 class hours.
SLP conducts an immersion English program focused on giving students the most efficient and intensive English language instruction available today. Classes are strictly English-only with heavy emphasis on critical thinking and conceptual understanding, opposed to simply regimented memorization and repetition. Class objectives ranged from phonics and vocabulary at the lowest level to debate and persuasive speech writing at the highest level.
